Irrigation Productive Use Assessment For Mini-Grids - Technical Assistance

This work builds upon a planned commercial investment in solar mini-grids to transition from diesel pumps for smallholder farmers engaged in horticulture production. The specific engagement consists of ascertaining appropriate irrigation ownership and operation models, defining legal parameters for mini- grid investment in Ethiopia, and reviewing all project components from a macro/interdependency level, and identifying how the various components tie in operationally.

Mini-grid productive use assessment

Veritas Consulting was engaged by the German government’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) and SouthSouthNorth (SSN) to support the Government of Ethiopia via the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) to establish an investment-friendly environment and attract private capital to the renewable energy sector, with a focus on rural mini-grids. Veritas Consulting was engaged through SSN to undertake research and deliver discrete work outputs to support the objectives of the program.

Accelerated Distributed Energy and Lighting in Ethiopia
(World Bank – ADELE)

The objective of this project was to support the preparation of a pipeline lending project in Ethiopia – the World Bank’s Accelerated Distributed Energy and Lighting in Ethiopia (ADELE), and specifically to support the preparation of a long list of potential mini-grid sites to be financed under the program identifying potential opportunities for financing and growing the market for standalone solar for productive uses through the program’s credit line and result-based financing facility.
